Overview
A boutique prop trading firm is seeking an experienced Python Software Engineer to join a growing engineering team focused on building large-scale data and research platforms that underpin systematic investment research. This role sits at the core of the research stack, enabling quantitative researchers to work efficiently with vast datasets and complex models. The firm operates a technology-first culture, with strong emphasis on engineering quality, scalability, and reproducibility in research.
The Role
As a Python Software Engineer, you will design and build distributed systems and data tooling that support quantitative research at scale.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing Python-based data and research platforms for large-scale analysis and experimentation
- Building and optimising distributed data pipelines to ingest, clean, transform, and store large volumes of financial and alternative data
- Developing frameworks and libraries that enable reproducible, scalable research workflows
- Working closely with quantitative researchers and data teams to translate research requirements into robust engineering solutions
- Improving system performance, reliability, and scalability across research infrastructure
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science or a STEM discipline
- Experience as a Python Software Engineer or in a similar position
- Strong experience with Python for data engineering and research tooling
- Familiarity with distributed systems and large-scale data processing
- Experience with Kubernetes and Docker is beneficial
- Solid understanding of modern software development practices (version control, testing, CI/CD)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with researchers
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for building scalable, research-oriented systems
